This is the pageant for Inti Raymi Day up in Sacsayhuaman there were thousands of people there. They were cooking and selling everything. Bevin and I got separated and ended up coming home alone. |
The big Cusco Celebration is Inti Raymi Days on June 24 It is a worship of the Sun Celebration This is in Plaza de Armas |
We missed the Inti Raymi days celebration at Sacsayhuaman when we were there because we were exhibiting in the 10-day Feria, and could not get away. The Feria is probably over now, but if it is still going on, it is a great exhibition of agricultural items - from maiz to papas to cui - and a lot of local crafts and other items. You go past the Feria grounds on your way to capilla Villa Union. They also have a big farm market their every Saturday when the Feria is not going on. That is worth going to. Have you made it to the Baratillo (locals only Saturday market)? You are not likely to find any gringo turistas there. You can find everything you need there, from car parts to stereos, books, local weavings - and anything else you can imagine. I found some real treasures there, including a couple of 1706 silver dubloons.
