This is our first trip to Quillabamba. Crossing that pass that is over 1400 feet is pretty impresive. We went to do english interviews with the missionaries. There are some missionaries that are doing pretty well with english and some don't give a hoot. I hope all this is worth it. I would say about 75% are passing the exam. Strange we didn't take any pictures in Quillabamba. It is an interesting trip. I took a picture of this mountain because nobody seems to know what the lines are for. They are not terraces just lines. The incas were tinkering around with something. The driver is Edison but he assures me he is no genius. He is a member and we had a great conversation
We have everything recovered from Susan theft. We don't want to try to get another carnet. We just carry copies.
We are out of the apartment now. That turned out to be horrible. The owner came to town screaming and shouting. The poor financial clerk had to deal with him and he finally told him to shut up. I don't know where they got the contract that they signed but it said everything had to be repainted floors refinished and everything. Anyway it cost the mission a bunch of money. They finally negotiated paid the money and cleared out. He was such a liar.
There is a strike going on now with the teachers now. The kids haven't been to school for over a month. It is pretty much nationwide. Only one morning did I see garbage and rocks in the street. There are marches in a lot of places kind of disrupting traffic and things but I have seen no violence and everything is pretty much like normal. If there was martial law nobody told me. We have been where the teachers are and nobody seems nasty and mean. we went to Puerto last week and the road was blocked to the airport so we had to walk three or four blocks but everybody along the way was friendly and nice. I think it is a little overblown. Maybe some other cities are worse.
We turned in a name for a new district president in Andahuaylas but haven't gotten word back from the area. We will change in sept at district conference.
Believe it or not but Ayaviri is picking up. The president put two missionaries as counselors and the branch troublemaker quit coming and five families have come back. Choquehuanca is mired in the doldrums and we don't know what to do. I asked the last recommend holder to be president and he turned me down. We have talked to the area about putting them in the juliaca stake. They did that in Juli and it has worked real well. the stake sends people out to help out and there is a stake organization. Activities for the kids etc.
Our new apartment is very nice and the owners are very nice. We are on the sixth floor and the elevator opens into our room. If we could just get the area to pay the rent it would be nice.
