We went to Juli this weekend. We passed through Puno so I got a couple of pictures of the cathedral in the main plaza and a tourist street. After driving through Juliaca this place looks like the garden of eden.
This is the Mission presidency on the main plaza in Juli. It was so good to see the aymara people again. It was a sad visit in a way though. It will probably be the last trip there. The church has closed the district there and have combined them with the Puno stake. I think it will be a good thing once they get used to it but I am so worried that the poor Aymara people will just get pushed aside. The poor district president was so close to tears I could barely look at him. The stake leaders were there in mass and seemed to overwhelm everybody. They will get better help and service than they were from the mission because it is so far.

We know the exact street with the tile in Puno! The hotel we stayed at is just down the hill from the NW corner of the square. What great memories we have from there, though it is a long bus ride to get there. Actually, if we could get front row top seats on the "fast bus", it wasn't that bad.
ReplyDeleteWe were sad to hear that the Juli district has been closed, we were there for Historia Familiar twice. We know they struggled, and the leadership was good, but pretty thin. Two few stalwarts can't carry the entire load. Like you, we hope that they will be welcomed into one of the Puno stakes.
Is Javier Caceres the other mission counselor? From the photo, I don't think it could be anyone but him. He was one of our good friends, and was quite helpful to us on some of our travel arrangements.
